On Friday evening, the Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force partnered with the Madison County Library System to host an unforgettable aviation and military experience—Sky Heroes. This free, family-friendly event brought history to life on the tarmac and in our hangars, allowing guests of all ages to interact with historic aircraft, military vehicles, and real American heroes.

Aviation History Comes to Life in Madison, MS
Visitors enjoyed a unique hands-on opportunity to explore authentic warbirds, including the iconic Bell 47 MAS*H helicopter, classic WWII-era trainer aircraft, and the fan-favorite L-5 “Doctors Orders”. From crawling inside cockpits to watching engines roar to life, guests were immersed in a living museum of flight.

Meet a Real Paratrooper and Explore Military Jeeps
One of the most memorable moments of the night was the chance to meet and speak with a real-life U.S. Army paratrooper, who shared powerful stories about training, service, and the life-saving role of airborne troops in American history. Guests also got up close with vintage military jeeps, learning how these historic vehicles supported troops on the ground during critical moments of wartime.

Kids, Cameras, and Community
Families gathered under clear blue skies to pose with planes, ride in jeeps, and enjoy aviation-themed activities led by the Civil Air Patrol’s Madison Composite Squadron. With hands-on STEM stations, coloring tables, and live demonstrations, the Sky Heroes event offered an exciting blend of education, entertainment, and patriotism.
