A New Chapter in Community Engagement

ree

The Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force recently hosted members of the Madison County Business League & Foundation for a special gathering at our hangar. This meaningful event marks the Wing’s continued expansion not only as a historical aviation organization, but as a deeply invested part of the greater City of Madison business and civic community.

A Day of Partnership and Purpose

Business leaders, city representatives, military veterans, and local partners gathered under the wings of historic aircraft to discuss economic growth, tourism potential, and how the Mississippi Wing can contribute to the ongoing development of Madison County.

Guests enjoyed refreshments, fellowship, and walkthroughs of the hangar’s exhibits. Displays ranged from historical artifact collections to the new development and additions to the hangar. This gave attendees a first-hand view of how aviation history and education are being preserved right here in Mississippi.

Honoring a Legacy: Guest Speaker Dan Fordice

ree

The event was highlighted by guest speaker Dan Fordice, an accomplished pilot, longtime CAF supporter, and a passionate advocate for aviation and American heritage. Dan is the son of former Mississippi Governor and aviation enthusiast Kirk Fordice, and he continues that legacy through active service on the national CAF Executive Committee.

As one of the main founders of the Southern Heritage Air Foundation, Dan has played a pivotal role in preserving aviation history and supporting veteran outreach across the region. An esteemed member of the Mississippi Wing himself, he brought personal insight, passion, and inspiration to the gathering. His remarks touched on the power of aviation to connect generations, support education, and strengthen civic pride. Dan is also known for his impressive personal aircraft collection, including a North American P-51 Mustang, and is widely respected as a skilled and devoted aviator.

A Moment of Integration

As the Mississippi Wing completes major phases of its facility improvements, this event also served as an important symbol of integration with the local community. Hosting the Business League reflected a shared commitment to honoring heritage, supporting veterans, and building meaningful partnerships with the private and public sectors.

Leadership from both the Mississippi Wing and the Madison County Business League spoke about future opportunities—from educational programming to joint events—and discussed how the Wing's presence can elevate both historical awareness and economic engagement throughout the region.
