A Day of Aviation, Community, and Hands-On Experience
The Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force was proud to attend and actively participate in the Southern Heritage Air Foundation’s Pi Day celebration, an event that brought together aviation enthusiasts, families, and community members for a full day of immersive experiences, both on the ground and in the air.
Flying In and Showing Up

One of the most exciting aspects of the day was the strong presence of Mississippi Wing members who arrived by air. Several members flew in with their personal aircraft, showcasing the passion and dedication that defines our Wing.

The ramp quickly filled with a variety of aircraft, giving attendees the opportunity to see aviation up close and personal.

These arrivals were more than just transportation, they were a living demonstration of general aviation in action, inspiring younger generations and reminding visitors of the accessibility and excitement that aviation offers.
Bringing History to Life

In addition to aircraft, Mississippi Wing members also transported and displayed historical ground equipment, including our WWII-era Jeep and vintage military motorcycle. These pieces quickly became focal points for guests, especially families and children who were eager to climb aboard, take photos, and experience a tangible piece of history. Volunteers were on hand throughout the day to share stories, explain the significance of the equipment, and connect visitors to the broader mission of preserving World War II history.

Supporting the Mission on the Ground
The Mississippi Wing also played a key operational role in the event by helping staff and manage the ride operations tent. This area served as the central hub for coordinating aircraft rides, assisting guests, and ensuring a smooth and organized experience for attendees.

Wing members worked throughout the day to guide participants, answer questions, and help facilitate what, for many, was their very first time experiencing flight.
These interactions are at the heart of what we do in creating meaningful, memorable connections through aviation.

A True Community Event
The Southern Heritage Air Foundation’s Pi Day event was a perfect example of what can happen when organizations come together with a shared purpose. From aircraft displays and rides to educational opportunities and hands-on experiences, the event delivered something for everyone.

Families explored and kids engaged with history in a real and exciting way. Aviation enthusiasts had the chance to connect with pilots, aircraft, and stories that continue to shape our mission.
For the Mississippi Wing, it was more than just attendance, it was an opportunity to represent who we are, support a partner organization, and continue expanding our reach within the aviation and local community.
