A Fresh Season, A Timeless Experience
Spring officially arrived at the Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force with one of our most unique and engaging traditions, the annual M.A.S.H. Party, inspired by the iconic television series M.A.S.H. With warmer weather came a renewed energy around the hangar, setting the stage for a day centered on preparation, teamwork, and immersive historical experience.

Preparing the Hangar for the Season
In true Mississippi fashion, spring also brought pollen and plenty of it. Leading into the event, Wing members dedicated time and effort to thoroughly prepare the hangar. Floors were swept, mopped, and washed, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for both members and guests. We could not have cleaned things up without community partner, Max Flooring for donating their floor cleaning machine to help in preparation for our event.

This preparation wasn’t just about appearance, it reflected the pride and ownership our members take in maintaining the space where history is preserved and shared.
Building the M.A.S.H. Experience
As the hangar came to life, key elements of the M.A.S.H. setup were carefully assembled. The Swamp tent, company office, surgical tent, and Rose’s Cantina were all brought together to recreate the recognizable field hospital setting made famous by the television show.
Each area added depth and authenticity to the experience, giving attendees a chance to step into a familiar scene inspired by the series. From medical setups to living quarters, every detail contributed to a fully immersive display that blended entertainment with historical appreciation.
Honoring a Legacy
This year’s event carried a deeper meaning, as the hangar was filled not only with activity but with memories of those who helped shape it. The day paid tribute to the late COL David “Dave” Zaviona, a committed member of the Mississippi Wing who recently passed away.

Dave was known for his passion, dedication, and especially his love for the M.A.S.H. Party. His presence has long been part of this tradition, and throughout the day, there was a shared sense of appreciation for the impact he made on the Wing and its members. In many ways, the spirit of the event reflected the legacy he leaves behind one of camaraderie, service, and genuine love for bringing history to life.
Partnership with The Ninety-Nines

A highlight of the day was the involvement of our friends from The Ninety-Nines, who joined the Mississippi Wing to staff the nurses’ tent. Their participation added both authenticity and collaboration to the event, reinforcing the strong relationships within the aviation community.
Working alongside Wing members, they helped bring the M.A.S.H. environment to life, engaging with visitors and contributing to the overall experience.
A Day at the Hangar

Throughout the day, members and guests moved through the hangar exploring each section of the setup, enjoying conversation, and taking in the details of the displays. From vintage military vehicles and equipment to thoughtfully staged interiors, the environment reflected both historical appreciation and community effort.
The atmosphere was relaxed, engaging, and filled with the kind of interaction that continues to define the Mississippi Wing where people coming together around a shared passion for history, aviation, and service.
