FROM THE CROW’S NEST

It was my honor to represent the MS Wing at this year’s Wing Staff Conference.  Our new president, Steve Brown has lots of new ideas, and fresh insight on how the CAF is going to have to adapt in order to grow as an organization.  I don't think we are going to be "The best kept secret in aviation" for much longer.  For starters, you can expect to see regular advertising campaigns in the major aeronautical publication very soon.  He has also made strides in getting commitments from high profile, national sports organizations for fly-overs.  There are several other new programs starting soon that I will discuss at this week's meeting.

Some of you have already taken advantage of the new volunteer rewards program this year by logging the time you have spent helping out at the hangar.  This new program is designed to reward the member who volunteers and logs the most time each quarter.  By logging the most time, that volunteer earns a free flight in a Wing warbird!  During our March meeting, we will be announcing the 1Q 2008 winner and scheduling that flight.

Our PX officer, Bob Bates, says the new MS Wing CAF logo shirts and hats will be arriving soon.  At this month's meeting we should have some examples of what the final product will look like.  We've all seen Bob's taste in clothes, so if nothing else, this should be very interesting.  No seriously, many thanks to Bob for heading up this effort.  It's going to be nice for us to go to events "in uniform" once again.

The MS Wing still needs to reduce the number of paper newsletters we mail each month.  If you are still receiving the newsletter by US Mail, and you have a valid email address, please let us know.  You can email me directly at ehollingsworth@cellularsouth.com to update your email address.  By doing this, you will help us reduce operating cost, plus you will get a higher quality newsletter in a more timely manner.

Stinson 10A

For those of you who haven't heard, we have received the overhauled engine for our Stinson 10A.  Reports from Lil Red Aero indicate that the Franklin runs very well and is free from leaks.  I can imagine it will be hung on the aircraft, plumbed, and test run very soon; so if you have a opportunity to come out to the hangar and help, now is a great time.  This has got to be one of the most exiting periods in the entire project.  We have a few other items to work out before she'll be ready to take flight, but we are on schedule for a first flight this spring.  Please make an effort to come by and lend a hand.

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is one of the newly delivered Franklin 90hp engine for our little Stinson!

Well, look what came in today’s mail!
