OCTOBER 2007

NOTES FROM THE "HEAD SHED"

We’ve been hearing the sweet sound of air shows all month and it does sound great. The even better news is that there is still at least one big chance to hear more of the same through October. Come out and join us for some fun!

This month’s meeting will be the Southern Heritage Air Show in Vicksburg on Saturday, October 27. It’ll be the best show in Mississippi this year! We’ll have a special Wong tent set up for paid-in-full CAF COL’s. The headliners are the AeroShell T-6 team and a jet propelled truck! There will also be an array of vintage and modern day aircraft on static display.

We need volunteers to man the PX, the T-6 ramp, escort the pilots of the military static displays, and to assist with assorted air show duties as may develop. Give me a call to volunteer. Most importantly, pass word along to those you know who are NOT pilots – this is a show for ALL to enjoy. Let’s help make it a success!

Mississippi Wing PX

Those attending the annual CAF show at Midland as well as the Houston show report a grand success! Our PX traveled to both events and earned enough to keep our lights on for yet one more year!

Stinson 10A

The answer is still in limbo from Lil’ Red Aero on our engine. We think that if we can find new bearings for the shaft, the best choice will be to overhaul the existing Franklin – otherwise, we may be still looking at a replacement engine. We’re trying to avoid throwing good money after bad, but progress remains slow and the deeper we get with it, the more we come to realize that the engine we bought was not in the condition it was advertised as.

Delta Balloon Festival & Air Show

T-28’s fly by at Greenville

The Wing was well represented at the Delta Balloon Festival in Greenville, MS the weekend of Sep 8/9, with Eric Hollingsworth flying Stan Musick’s T-6 up there for static display. Thanks, guys.

First Solo

Congratulations to Chris Vozzo for his first solo. Chris, a Cadet in the Mississippi Wing, solo’d a Let L-23 Super Blanik on September 29th, at Harrell Airfield (MS08), north of Jackson.

Chris, who studied under Stan Musick, says that his next goal will be to focus on learning how to handle flying the glider in normal flight without numerous emergencies occurring within the span of a few minutes.
