NOTES FROM THE “HEAD SHED”

This month’s meeting will be at the Hangar at noon on Saturday the 15th.

The Southern Heritage Air Show in Vicksburg, is next month, October 27.  It’ll be the best show in Mississippi this year with our own Stan Musick performing his aerial T-6 routine!  The headliners are the AeroShell T-6 team and a jet propelled truck!  There will also be an array of vintage and modern day aircraft on static display.  We need volunteers to man the PX, the T-6 ramp, escort the pilots of the military static displays, and to assist with assorted air show duties as may develop.  Give me a call to volunteer.  Most importantly, pass word along to those you know who are NOT pilots – this is a show for ALL to enjoy.  Let’s help make it a success!

Keep ‘em flying  - COL Bob Bates

. . . and away we go!

Labor Day Formation Clinic

Thanks to Dan Fordice for hosting the Labor Day T-6 formation clinic and making it such a success.  The day’s activities saw four T-6 aircraft and a Yak participate with a total of five missions departing involving 20 individual sorties.  That’s an impressive day for the size of the Mississippi Wing!

Pilot participants (listed below) all report being totally worn out by the day’s end.

                        Stan Musick

                        Dan Fordice

                        George Steube

                        Ray Morris

                        Jimmy Fordham

                        Pete Vozzo

Not to be left out, Mike Smith flew “over watch” on the first mission of the day in his Swearington and took the pictures seen of the day in this newsletter.

The next opportunity for the group to get together and practice is going to be Friday, October 26, at TVR – the day prior to the air show.

Stinson 10A

Thanks to Keith Jones initiative in packing and shipping, the 10A’s engine is now in the hands of the folks at Lil’ Red Aero.  The first order of business is to get an estimate from them on the cost and feasibility of a re-build – then the Staff can make a decision on how to proceed.

With any luck, we’ll know how much money we are looking at spending on it by the time of our meeting on the 15th.

CAF-FINA AirSho

If you’ve never been to Midland for the annual warbird show, it should be on your short list of things do to.  These vintage warbirds are not just on static display – and not just a few representative aircraft are there – it’s the whole era of 1939-1945 World War II aircraft – and at least one or more of almost every one that flew.  And they’re flying and performing for you - including our own Stan Musick who will put the Dixie Wing’s P-51, Red Nose, through it paces with an aerial performance.
