NOTES FROM THE “HEAD SHED”

Last month we had a good meeting with a special program presented by Mr. Sid Spiro.  We also added three new members this month, so be sure and welcome the new troops.

I appreciate those of you who have flown your planes in for our monthly meetings.  Flying is what we are all about and the noise of big engines, turning props, and beautifully painted aircraft draw attention to our Mississippi Wing.  Thanks to all of you.

I hope to see as many of you that can make it to the Meridian Airshow, April 17/18 and the Keesler Airshow on April 24.  Our C-45 is contracted to attend both events.  Aircraft from the Razorback Wing, Missouri Wing, and the Dixie Wing are also contracted to support the shows and the Navy's Blue Angels will be at Meridian.  Join us the evening of April 17 for a hospitality suite sponsored by COL Pete Vozzo at the Baymont Inn in Meridian (byob).

Slidell was a good show last month and our PX's made a little money. I want to thank COL Larry and wife Pat, COL Brian Mounton, and COL Keith Jones for their help with PX's.

Congratulations to COL Bob Pilgrim and his wife, Susan.  They are the proud parents of their newborn son, James Pilgrim, born on March 18.

See you in Meridian...

- COL Bob Bates

She hasn’t flown yet, but we are getting close enough to almost taste it!  Work on the entire project has progressed under the supervision of COL Art Davis.  Art, who is personally responsible for the engine . . . and its going GREAT!

The interior is also nearly complete and for that we have COL Hazel Dunnam to thank.

COL Scott Lynn has almost finished the panel and that will soon be in “like-new” condition!

COL Dan Fabian gets credit for not only the windshield, as previously reported, but for fabricating aluminum pieces for parts such as the door jam and he’s even working on the cowl hood.

The C-45 is now being exercised more regularly with two pilots and underwent a routine maintenance flight in March.

It is now ready for the meeting the Blue Angels at NAS Meridian on April 17/18 and also Keesler on April 24.  If you would like a ride going there or back, please contact COL Jim Barbee.

Speaking of C-45’s the Keesler airshow will include and performance by Bobby Younkin's Twin Beech, “combining smoke, noise and size, yet remaining very smooth and graceful.  The action is non-stop, and the entire routine is kept in front of the crowd at all times. This act is very unique and does not duplicate any other act.”
